"Portrait of Charles Darwin, engraving (ca. 1874) taken from a photograph by Captain L. Darwin, R.E." In: Francis Darwin. The Life and Letters of Charles Darwin, Including an Autobiographical Chapter. London: John Murray, 1887, volume 3. Darwin had seldom been well physically since he returned from the voyage with the Beagle. He died on April 19th, 1882, aged only 73, and was buried in Westminster Abbey. This official biography edited by Darwin's son soon after his death, relies heavily on Darwin's own letters. The C.
